150 Years in America: A Sesquicentennial Celebration in DC

Join Us As We Celebrate Little Sisters of the Poor 150 Years in America

Here at the Jeanne Jugan Residence, our “little family” of Residents, Sisters, and Staff are joyfully anticipating local activities honoring the Little Sisters’ 150 years in America, and all are welcome to attend. The celebration of our sesquicentennial began August 2018, and each of our communities across the country from the Bronx and Denver to Gallup are holding their own events to mark this milestone. Mark your calendar and plan on joining us for one or all of these events:

Saturday, June 1

Open House, 2 p.m. – 4  p.m., Jeanne Jugan Residence
4200 Harewood Road, NE, Washington, DC 20017

Mass of Thanksgiving, 4 p.m., Jeanne Jugan Residence Chapel
Celebrant: Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States
Reception to follow

The Little Sisters will open the doors of the Jeanne Jugan Residence on Saturday, June 1 for an Open House from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.,  offering a glimpse into our charism and time here in the United States. Talk with the Sisters and Residents, take a tour, and hear more about our programs and mission.

Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at 4 p.m. in our chapel, followed by a reception with refreshments. Like our Mother Foundress, Saint Jeanne Jugan, Archbishop Pierre is a native of Brittany, France. He is the Pope’s representative in the United States and a long-time friend of the Little Sisters. We hope you will join us on our special day!

We are committed to our mission of caring for this city’s elders for many years to come, and Little Sisters around the country are continuing to live the mission of Saint Jeanne Jugan, by offering the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself.

Due to a scheduling conflict the May 31 event previously listed here is being rescheduled.
We will post details as soon as possible.
